Tickface

It actually ticks.

Live watch and clock faces for your Android lock screen. Your time, to the second.

Join the free beta: leave the Gmail your phone’s Play Store uses and we add you as a tester.

Built layer by layer, like a real watch.

The app draws every layer live, so the watch keeps your time.

Then set on your real lock screen.

Not a widget on top of your wallpaper. The wallpaper itself.

Five looks

Every design comes in Halo, Bone, Ember, Slate and Moss.

The film

Real watches, pixel desktops, word clocks and a record player that shows your music. Every one ticks live on your lock screen in five looks.

Every design

Watches

Wristwatches drawn as real objects, analog and digital.

Full screen

The whole wallpaper is the clock: dot fields, terminals, word clocks, old desktops.

Gadgets

Objects that tell the time: a desk clock with the weather, wooden drums that roll over.

Music

Clocks that show the song your phone is playing.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. No ads, no subscription, and plenty of designs are free for good. Some designs are a one-time purchase of $1.49 or $1.99, and you can preview every one in full first.

Will it drain my battery?

It redraws only when something changes: once a minute for a design without seconds. Designs that animate, like the record player, do so only while music is playing. There’s a pure black backdrop for AMOLED screens, which costs almost nothing to show.

Why does it want Notification access?

Only for the two music designs. Android hands over what’s playing (title, artist, album art) through that permission and no other. Tickface reads no notifications, and none of it ever leaves your phone. Skip it and those designs show “Nothing playing”.

Why does it want my location?

Only for Beacon, the desk clock with the weather. Your approximate position, rounded to about a kilometre, is sent to a weather service and nowhere else. Refuse it and Beacon shows dashes instead.

Do I lose paid designs if I change phone?

No. Purchases belong to your Google account, so they come back when you sign in and reinstall.

Does it work on my phone?

Any phone on Android 8 or newer. Some manufacturers, like Xiaomi, Oppo and Samsung, stop background work aggressively, so the app shows you which battery setting to change.

Is it on iPhone?

No. iOS does not allow third-party live wallpapers, so Tickface is Android only.

When is it on Google Play?

It’s in testing on Google Play right now. Join the free beta and you’ll have it today; everyone else gets it when it opens to the public.
